I have not been on a mission trip in 15 years. Prior to our recent travels to Loja, Ecuador, I had a mental image of my own history of providing dental hygiene care with a team providing medical care and evangelism. Fast forward 15 years to a well-oiled machine of service, providing dental, medical, eyeglass, and spiritual care. I was honored to be a part of a team of 48 (42 from Louisville, KY, my hometown) including 14 dental students who happen to be amazing servants. Six children under the age of 15 joined us, providing the local schools with a puppet show on building your house on a solid foundation. The heartbreaking lines of the nationals trying to get into our building for care were unbelievable, increasing in numbers daily. Our God sightings increased in depth as the week progressed. A group of young men on our team shared their testimonies without dry eyes in the group. The power of the holy spirit was with us. Along with experiencing an earthquake firsthand, I am reminded of Is 41:10. Do not fear for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uplift you with my righteous right hand. For those reading this - if you are seeking the tangible presence of the Lord, join GHO on a well-organized trip to serve those who are forgotten. You will be the ones blessed, beyond measure!
