Pacific October 16 - 31/2015
WHEN
Oct 16 2015 - Oct 31 2015
COST
$3,755.00
*TRIP IS CLOSED*
URGENT NEED - 4 Positions Needed - Providers, NP, PA, Nurse and Logistic
This small, primary care medicine and dentistry team will work in isolated villages in this nation. After arriving in a large international airport, the team will travel by ferry and domestic flights to a large provincial capital. The team will divide into two teams of four to travel by SUV or boat to remote villages, most of which have never seen a foreigner. The residents of these villages live on subsistence farming, yet are very open to honest, sincere, compassionate care.
This trip is not for the faint of heart, body, or mind! Days will be long, and travel may include several hours of driving in an SUV over roads in poor condition. If you are prone to carsickness or seasickness, this is not the trip for you! Our national partners are strong, and have excellent Kingdom strategies for reaching out to these rural communities over the long term, and building relationships while contributing to improved education and health status. Trip participants will be expected to prepare by reading several books on working across cultures, and will need to have the utmost flexibility and patience as we truly work at the end of the trail to share the good news of the Gospel in unreached, unengaged people groups.
The team will be bare bones – two primary care providers, a dentist, and a nurse or pharmacist on each of the two 4-person teams. In future years, there may be room for nonmedical (logistics) personnel and students, but this initial team must be small due to the remote sites. For more information about the location and work, contact the team leader, Donald Thompson, MD, MPH&TM, at [email protected].
