Pacific March 24-April 4/2016, SR1277

WHEN
Mar 24 2016 - Apr 4 2016
COST
$3,585.00

This very small, very strategic primary care medicine team will work in isolated island villages in this nation.  After arriving in a large international airport, the team will travel by ferry and small boats to remote villages, most of which have never seen a foreigner.  The residents of these villages live on subsistence farming, yet are very open to honest, sincere, compassionate care.

This trip is not for the faint of heart, body, or mind!  Days will be long, and travel will include hours in small boats on rivers.  If you are prone to seasickness, this is not the trip for you!  We will be living in very rustic conditions the first three nights, on sleeping mats on hut floors.  We will bring mosquito netting, bug repellent, and our own food.  Our national partners are strong, and have excellent Kingdom strategies for reaching out to these rural communities over the long term, and building relationships while contributing to improved education and health status.  Trip participants will be expected to prepare by reading several books on working across cultures, and will need to have the utmost flexibility and patience as we truly work at the end of the trail to share the good news of the Gospel in unreached, unengaged people groups.

What better way to celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins by sharing his love with those who have never heard?!

The team will be bare bones - three primary care providers, and a nurse who can also act as a pharmacist.  This is an excellent opportunity for a dermatologist who can also deliver primary care and can suture machete wounds!  In future years, there may be room for nonmedical (logistics) personnel and students, but this initial team must be small due to the remove sites.  The trip dates might shift by a day in either direction as we firm up the details.

For more information about the location and work, contact the team leader, Donald Thompson, MD, MPH&TM, at [email protected].
