*TRIP IS CLOSED - TEAM IS FULL*

This very small, very strategic primary care medicine and dentistry team will work in isolated island villages in this nation.  After arriving in a large international airport, the team will travel by ferry, a domestic flight, and small boats to remote villages, many of which have never seen a foreigner.  The residents of these villages live on subsistence farming and fishing, yet are very open to honest, sincere, compassionate care.

This trip is not for the faint of heart, body, or mind!  Days will be long, and travel will include hours of travel in small boats on rivers and the open ocean.  If you are prone to seasickness, this is not the trip for you!  We will be living in very rustic conditions on sleeping mats on hut floors.  We will bring mosquito netting, bug repellant, and our own snacks.  Our national partners are strong, and have excellent Kingdom strategies for reaching out to these rural communities over the long term, and building relationships while contributing to improved education and health status.  Trip participants will be encouraged to prepare by reading several books on working across cultures, and will need to have the utmost flexibility and patience as we truly work at the end of the trail to share the good news of the Gospel in unreached, unengaged people groups.

The team will be bare bones – three primary care providers, a nurse, and a non-medical person to run a reading glass clinic.  This is an excellent opportunity for a dermatologist who can also deliver primary care and can suture machete wounds!  Our first team of three to this area took place in March 2016, and was very successful.  We are taking a slightly larger team this second time.  For more information about the location and work, contact the team leader, Donald Thompson, MD, MPH&TM, at [email protected].
