What do remote, needy and gold have in common?

URGENT NEEDS:  Providers, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Pharmacists, Physical & Occupational Therapists, Logistics (non-medical)

If you are willing to serve in an out of the way place, please consider joining us on this trip.  The eastern part of Nicaragua is that portion of the country which is least served by visiting mission teams.  It is many miles and many hours away by very poor roads (don't worry, we travel by air).  And yet, in the past few years that we have been traveling to this area, we have met many lovely people and very dedicated pastors who are some of the most appreciative in all of my years of participating on GHO trips.

The town of Bonanza is located in a region where gold mining is still a very active endeavor.  A Columbian company operates in this area.  You will see everything from complex operations all the way to a few young guys with shovels digging a small hole to extract the rocks which hopefully contain enough of this precious metal to yield a few dollars.

While the prospect of employment is a good thing, the hope of riches has kept many of the people living in this area in spiritual darkness, trusting the hope of money rather than their Creator.  For example, Bonanza is listed as having 13 casinos in town.  Alcoholism is also a big problem.  Therefore, not only is this portion of the Nicaragua isolated from the support of the central government with regard to healthcare and infrastructure, but the hope of financial prosperity makes the work of the "church" challenging.

The plan for the trip will be to rendezvous in Managua upon arrival and the next morning take the domestic airline to Bonanza.  A one hour flight compares to a bus ride that you wouldn't want to endure.  We will then check into a "basic" hotel.  (I don't think that the star-rating system works for this place).  Don't worry about bringing a hair dryer since fashion is not a priority.

We will be setting up clinic in a small community called Versubio which is an hour bus ride from Bonanza.  Along the way you will see evidence of the mining operations.  There we will meet with our host pastors, a group that is already praying for our team's visit.  They report that all forms of medical and dental care are badly needed in their communities and that a brigade such as ours will not only be a great blessing to those with physical needs, but will also be an aid in their efforts to share the good news of Jesus with the many who are far away from the Savior.

Qualifications for team members include people who have a heart to serve those most in need and don't mind a few inconveniences along the way.  Physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists and helpers are desired.  This trip will be an "adventure".
