TRIP IS CLOSED!

Join us on this first-ever team going to this strategically located country in the Middle East. There is a new openness to the truth as a result of the political upheaval in recent years, and our national partners have seen a tremendous willingness to consider the truth of the hope and compassion that we work out through our medical and dental care. This team needs primary care physicians, an OB/Gyn physician, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, a dermatologist, several dentists, dental assistants, a dental hygienist, nurses, a pharmacist, and logistics people with no medical training. There are great opportunities for service for a physical therapist and occupational therapist. The team size is limited to 10.

We will be staying in a guesthouse in the capital, a short distance from the international airport. The guesthouse has 2 full bathrooms and a half bath, and a full kitchen. Air conditioning is widely available. While there has been much unrest in the area several years ago, conditions have largely settled down under the new government. After a full day of cultural orientation, we will work in several sites in and around the capital. A recent team worked with very poor nationals in a community near the dump, where the main occupation was sifting through trash. The team saw many people from several faith traditions, including those thought closed to the Good News. Physical, spiritual and emotional needs are great, and our teams can care for all of these needs by showing the love of the Great Physician.

Several days will be dedicated to caring for Syrian refugees who have fled the upheaval in their home country. Many of these family units are missing brothers and husbands due to the war, and the mothers and children are in great need. Heart wrenching stories were shared about life before these families left home, and they now live in settings of great uncertainty. Our medical care often opens doors to further discussions about eternal issues. The team will stay in a hotel in a different part of town while caring for these refugees, due to the uncertainties of traffic.

Plan on long days filled with challenging discussions about reaching people who are oppressed in many ways. This trip will require more spiritual preparation prior to departure, including reading about the people and culture. Contact the team leader, Lloyd DeFoor, at [email protected] for more information about the trip, and for the reading list.
