This will be GHO’s second trip to serve in this remote island in a large country in the South Pacific. The GHO team will fly into an international city in this country, then will take a one-hour plane ride to the largest city on the island (note: The domestic airfare for this additional flight is included in your trip fee).
The island is located in the eastern portion of the country, and has a population of over 650,000. The landscape features low limestone hills. Our mission will take place during their dry season when temperatures are usually in the 80's during the daytime.
We partner with the Healthcare Christian Fellowship (HCF) chapter, and will serve with a number of national doctors, nurses and students as colleagues and translators. We will also work in conjunction with a local Christian free clinic for the poor, in addition to having clinics in more remote areas.
We seek to have an impact long after we depart when the medicines we dispensed are gone. To do this, we have strategic relationships with a local Christian missionary hospital as well as local churches. We also seek to use the platform of short term healthcare to foster the making of disciples in obedience to Christ's Great Commission mandate.
The religious culture of this region is complex. There is an animistic form of ancestral religion that originated on this island in the days of Moses. Many professing Christians tend to combine their faith with this animistic religion. Its influence ranges from generational slavery to ancestor worship and elaborate, costly burial practices dating back to the Bronze Age. Additionally, the influence of other faith traditions is expanding on the island and in this region of the nation.

Prerequisites
- Important Note! The expiration date on your valid passport MUST be 6 months beyond the return date of your trip. It may take 3 to 6 months to receive a passport from your local passport office; therefore, you may consider obtaining your passport via g3visas at www.g3visas.com.
- Some foreign language skill is greatly appreciated
- Vaccinations
Responsibilities
- Attending morning and evening team meetings, including devotions
- Serving in the capacity of position on team and/or at direction of the team leader
