Ecuador Oct 4 - 11, 2019, Trip includes New to Missions - Dentist Training, SR1444
- Oct 4 2019 - Oct 11 2019
- Calshi, EC
- Global Health Outreach
This trip will entail a medical, dental and eyeglass clinic but with an emplasis for the 'first-time' to short-term mission dentist who asks "Just how do you set up a mobile clinic for dentistry?" The best opportunity to learn is during a normal short-term mission trip with experienced dentists who have done short-term missions for years. Thus we are announcing our trip including "New to Missions - Dentist Training!"
We welcome physicians, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, first responders, dental hygienists, dental assistants, physical/occupational therapists, students, and logistics (non-medical helpers) on all of our general medicine and dentistry trips.
This trip will be perfect for you if you are a dentist and this is your first time doing dental missions! We will have an experienced GHO dentist who will be able to teach you the basics of what it takes to do missionary dentistry. This is a lot more complicated for dentist’s primarily because of the equipment necessary on the mission field. You will learn how to set up portable dental units, the basics of instrument sterilization, and caring for patients outside of your dental office.
Calshi is a small Quechua community of about 800 people located on the slopes of Mount Chimborazo, the highest mountain in Ecuador.
Wikipedia says: With a peak elevation of 6,263 m (20,548 ft), Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador. It is the highest peak near the equator. Chimborazo is not the highest mountain by elevation above sea level, but its location along the equatorial bulge makes its summit the farthest point on the Earth's surface from the Earth's center (as well as the point on Earth closest to the moon).
We will be working with Pastor Segundo Paca. He started the local church about 30 years ago, and has since started churches in San Gerardo and Hierbabuena, as well. The church has around 200 regular members. The whole community is looking forward to our visit.
We will stay on the northern outskirts of Riobamba, the closest large town, about a 3 hour bus ride south of Quito.
2018 team member, Dr. David Yee, prepared this video if you’d like to get an idea of what you could expect to see in Calshi, Ecuador.
Our hostesses, Marilyn and Tammy, have been receiving teams through GHO since 1999. It is their passion to serve the underserved all over the country, and they are excited to be able to receive YOU for this amazing time that God is preparing!
