Welcome to Honduras!  Since 2011, this mission has focused on providing excellent orthopaedic surgical care, in the name of Christ, to the poor of Honduras in the capital city of Tegucigalpa.  This trip will focus on surgery of the hand and the upper extremity. We also have had other surgical and medical specialties join us, such as pediatrics, cardiology, and psychiatry.

We mainly work out of two public hospitals in Tegucigalpa: Hospital Escuela, an 1800-bed teaching hospital, and its smaller partner, Hospital San Felipe, which offer medical and surgical specialties including residency training. We have also worked out of other smaller private hospitals in the city.

Team participants will work alongside Honduran surgeons, surgical residents, anesthesiologists, and other hospital staff to learn from each other, offer training, and partner with them as they care for their patients. Teams have provided advanced equipment such as arthroscopy and offered training, then left the equipment with the hospital, having taught the personnel "how to fish." This trip provides team members ample opportunity to live out and share their faith individually as they interact with hospital staff and patients.

The team has an active prayer ministry within the hospital, often called "the Heart of the Team.” Members of the prayer team make daily rounds visiting patients and their families throughout the hospital offering physical and spiritual hope through prayer and by providing small items for personal hygiene, Spanish Bibles, toys for children, and praying for particular needs.

The teams may, depending on team size, have a group that goes to a mountain community to do construction projects, make home visits, and play with the children.

Teams are made up of surgeons, operating room nurses, scrub techs, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, physical therapists, pastors, and others who wish to use their skills in the O.R. and hospital to serve the less fortunate of Honduras. We also encourage residents, and medical and pre-medical students to apply who are interested in exploring medical missions. Even non-medical personnel are needed to help with logistical support for the medical team and to serve on the prayer and mountain teams. This is also a great family trip for those with children over 12 as there is a place for everyone to serve.

Come and serve with us as we join with the Lord in the work He is doing in Honduras. You will come home tired, but you will be blessed.
