Nicaragua Sept. 12-19, 2020, Family friendly, w/Andrew Schock, SR1503
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America and holds a very dear place in my heart, as my life changed while there for the first time in 2001. It is a beautiful country with amazing people who are such a joy to serve. It is also the poorest country in Central America and has had a very difficult time since new political unrest and turmoil that started in April of 2018. Things have stabilized and GHO considers it safe to return, but the people are still hurting financially, physically, and emotionally. Spiritually they seem to be stronger than ever, which isn’t surprising considering the purifying effect of persecution. Schools and businesses have re-opened, but many have been permanently closed as the unrest in 2018 hurt the local economy so deeply that some businesses were not able to recover.
Our team gets the special opportunity to once again join Nicaragua GHO director Rolando Castillo and his team, as we will be taking a large team to an area of great need. We will also partner with several local churches and pastors to train and support them. The local church is the key to success for any GHO team, as they are the people that remain in the area after we depart, and they will be discipling those we have ministered to. Our combined team will provide top-notch medical and dental care through our clinic and some home visits and will be sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we provide that care. Additionally, we will have a simple eye clinic which provides reading glasses, we will have a physical therapy team and we will have a community health education department.
We welcome physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physicians, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and any other medically trained people who typically assist the previously mentioned practitioners. About half of the team will likely be made up of non-medically trained people (logistical team members) and they form the backbone of our team. There is simply no way to have a fully operational team without them! Regardless of the level of medical training, we are all on the team to be humble and willing servants of our creator the Lord Jesus Christ. So come be a part of His team and see what amazing things the Lord is doing through His people in Nicaragua!
