In the town of El Corte, near Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, residents have recently been blessed with physical and spiritual living water. As part of a GHO outreach ministry in March of 2023, GHO leaders partnered with a sponsoring church in Santo Domingo (Oasis) and a sister church in El Corte.
Throughout the week of shared ministry, 1,350 patients received medical and dental care, necessary medications, and spiritual counseling via the volunteers from the Oasis church. In addition to the medical care and counseling, local church-selected homes received water filtration systems. An average of 10% of El Corte family incomes is spent on bottled water from vendors throughout the area. The GHO-delivered water filter systems will last up to 10 years and the clean water yielded from the filters will be plentiful enough to share with neighbors.
El Corte residents Tomasina and Beatrice are a dynamic mother-daughter team. They took ownership of the neighbor-to-neighbor education program which will help make the ongoing success of the filter program more sustainable. As filters were being delivered and families were educated, the families also heard about the living water in life with Jesus. Of the 1300+ residents who received care during the week, the spiritual counselors from the Oasis church documented 98 first-time professions of faith! The Oasis Church will coordinate follow-up discipling support for these new believers in conjunction with the El Corte church.
