Ecuador Mar 16 - 24, 2019, SR1421
This trip is now closed. Please explore our other trip opportunities at www.ghotrips.org.
We welcome physicians, dentists, pharmacists, dermatologists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, first responders, dental hygienists, dental assistants, physical/occupational therapists, students, servants (non-medical helpers), and a trip photographer/videographer on all of our general medicine and dentistry trips.
Dr. Dave Maddy and Ron Brown will be leading this team to Ecuador. Dave and Dr. Tim Daugherty have been partnering in dental missions for many years and have been the impetus behind recruiting an amazing team of dental students and dentists serving as mentors, from the Univ. of Louisville. They have also established some great connections from physicians in CA and Nebraska that have led our CMDA chapters there and recruited medical students to join these teams. Haiti, Peru, two years in Honduras and last year in Quito,Ecuador have been the 5 year history with Dave and Tim and GHO teams.
Marilyn Guido, RN, and her husband, John, have been in Ecuador 29 years and hosting CMDA/ GHO teams for 20 plus years. John has given the Verbo Ecuador church amazing leadership and has also been a speaker, leader and mentor for many of the Verbo churches in other South American countries. The first Verbo church that they planted in Cuenca has in turn helped spawn Verbo churches all over Ecuador. Learn more about their ministry here: http://www.verbocuenca.org/Ministries/Family-Health-Foundation
Tammy Vintimilla is Marilyn’s assistant and does lots of the logistics in hosting our GHO Teams. She and her husband, Fernando have been gifted leaders in the Verbo outreaches. I have had the joy of leading GHO teams hosted by them since 1999 and to this day Ecuador is one of my very favorite countries because of the beautiful and varied people groups, amazing national partners, and the stunning beauty of the land of the Andes Mountains, Pacific Coast and Amazon jungle.
This team will be based in Cuenca (elevation 8,400 feet) , the center for the Verbo church and home to the Fundacion Hogar , where many previous GHO teams have served. The plan is to travel to a more needy and remote area outside of Cuenca, and return each evening to our base in Cuenca. Cuenca (Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca) is a city in southern Ecuador’s Andes mountains. It's known for its Tomebamba River waterfront and handicrafts including Panama hats. Its central plaza, Parque Calderón, is home to the blue-domed Catedral Nueva and the 16th-century Catedral Vieja, now a religious museum. The Museo y Parque Arqueológico Pumapungo displays ruins and artifacts from the Incan city of Tomebamba. Cuenca has an urban population of approximately 400,000 rising to 700,000 inhabitants in the larger metropolitan area. It is a stunning colonial city with great history, gorgeous cathedrals and an amazing mix of Ecuadorian tribal peoples.
