NOTE: GHO has a COVID plan to do our best to keep trip participants and our patients safe and healthy. We are watching closely (see updates below *) as countries begin to open up and trusting the Lord to make our way clear. It is possible this mission will cancel in which case your application and funds will be moved to a future mission of your choice.

*Currently CDC guidelines recommend but do not require a 7-10 day quarantine upon return to the U.S. We recommend you check with your employer or hospital for their requirements before committing to the mission.

Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America and holds a very dear place in my heart, as my life changed while there for the first time in 2001. It is a beautiful country with amazing people who are such a joy to serve. It is also the poorest country in Central America and recently had a very difficult time with new political unrest and turmoil that started in April of 2018. Things had stabilized and GHO considered it safe to return in July of 2019. We were planning to send multiple teams to Nicaragua in 2020, but world governments shut down international travel related to a novel coronavirus, now known as Covid 19. Our partners in Nicaragua have continued their ministry in a limited fashion, but the people are still hurting financially, physically, and emotionally.

Our team gets the special opportunity to once again join Nicaragua GHO director Rolando Castillo and his team, as we planning to take a team to an area of great need. We will also partner with several local churches and pastors to train and support them. The local church is the key to success for any GHO team, as they are the people that remain in the area after we depart, and they will be discipling those we have ministered to. Our combined team will provide top-notch medical and dental care through our clinic and some home visits and will be sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we provide that care. Additionally, we will have a simple eye clinic that provides reading glasses, we will have a physical therapy team and we will have a community health education department.

We welcome physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physicians, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and any other medically trained people who typically assist the previously mentioned practitioners. About half of the team will likely be made up of non-medically trained people (logistical team members) and they form the backbone of our team. There is simply no way to have a fully operational team without them! Regardless of the level of medical training, we are all on the team to be humble and willing servants of our creator the Lord Jesus Christ. So come be a part of His team and see what amazing things the Lord is doing through His people in Nicaragua!
