This trip is now closed. Check out our other trips here.
We welcome physicians, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, first responders, dental hygienists, dental assistants, physical/occupation therapists, students, logistics (non-medical helpers), and a trip photographer/videographer on all of our general medicine and dentistry trips.
Thanks for checking out the July DR mission trip! This is an ideal trip for first time goers as well as seasoned missionaries alike. Our vision for this team is twofold: 1) To share the love of Christ with the Dominican people through meeting their physical and spiritual needs, and 2) training and equipping medical/dental evangelists to spread the gospel locally, regionally, and to the ends of the earth. Our team normally comprises of half new individuals and half veterans. We also have been blessed to have numerous teens, college age, and professional students on this trip. This mix has allowed for great intergenerational mentoring each year. This trip is also well-suited for families with children preferably 12 years and above.
After much prayerful consideration by the leadership team of our national partner, Oasis Church, we go to a different location of need each year to meet the medical/dental needs and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Oasis Church in Santo Domingo, DR has been an outstanding partner of GHO and our team. They typically have about 75 of their church members join us for the entire week as our interpreters and helpers. They are wonderful to work with and are an inspiration of servanthood and Christ love.
Each year our team really has a lot of fun bonding and growing in Christ. We usually stay in a hotel and have American-like food for breakfast and supper. Lunch is served by the Oasis Church at the clinic site. Morning devotion and prayer will serve to daily prepare our team for God’s work and help to encourage each other in our faith. We always begin with worship during the morning and evening devotion time. Each day after devotions, the group travels by bus to the clinic site which is generally in a small school where the children are on summer recess. Our team generally comprises of primary care providers, pediatricians, physiatrists, dentists, PT/OTs, nurses, pharmacists, and logistics, but we welcome others as well! One of the unique experiences that always seem to be life-changing are the home visits. We take turns sending small teams out into the community we're serving to meet the physical needs of those that are too sick or immobile to make it to the clinic. The evening devotion time is set up for testimonies and “God sightings” that help us all understand how God is working. These are always especially meaningful times in which we can rejoice together. We hope you will pray about joining the work God has planned for this team!
