Cubulco, Guatemala August 11 - 19/2018, Surgery Trip, SR1377
This trip is now closed. Check out our other trips here.
GYN and General Surgery Trip -- We welcome gynecologists, general surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care providers, OR Nurses, PACU Nurses, CRNAs, Scrub Techs, and logistics (non-medical helpers) on the trip. We would also love a pharmacist and a pastor on our team.
Guatemala is the most populous and largest economy in Central America, but its rural population still lives in great deprivation. Many are excluded socially, economically, and politically due to language and geographical barriers and to a lack of education and economic opportunities. As a result, Guatemala has among the worst "health outcomes" and "health indicators" in Latin America.
We will be serving the people of Cubulco. It is a small mountain town 5 hours, by bus, north of Guatemala City. At an elevation of 3200 feet, the weather is mild and pleasant. The people are warm, friendly and welcoming. Our missionary hosts are Julio and Veronica Cardenas. A majority of the citizens speak Spanish although some speak the native dialect of Achi. We will have interpreters available to assist us.
GHO has partnered with AMG (Advancing the Ministry of the Gospel) http://www.amginternational.org. for many years. We will provide a full complement of medical and surgical services at Senorita Elena Medical Center. Surgical cases will mostly include hernias, gallbladders, hysterectomies and adnexal surgery. We will also have a medical clinic outreach each day at the hospital. The hospital provides ongoing medical support but only offers surgery 1-2 times a year with visiting medical teams. Over 15,000 patients each year are given the gospel message as they receive medical and dental treatment.
We will travel August 11th to Guatemala City, and take a bus to Cubulco August 12th. We will see patients in the clinic and do surgery August 13-17, then head back toward Guatemala City for a final team excursion, returning home on August 19th.
